It mistakenly attacks the hair follicles. This can lead to hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere. In most cases, hair falls out in small, round patches about the size of a quarter. In some people, hair loss is more extensive. Although uncommon, the disease can progress to cause total loss of hair on the head., face, and body.

Who gets Alopecia?

Alopecia areata affects an estimated four million Americans of both sexes and of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. It often begins in childhood. If you have a close family member with the disease, your risk of developing it is slightly increased. If your family member lost his or her first patch of hair before age 30, the risk to other family members is greater. Overall, one in five people with the disease have a family member who has it as well.

What Causes Alopecia?

In alopecia areata, immune system cells called white blood cells attack the rapidly growing cells in the hair follicles that make the hair. The affected hair follicles become small and drastically slow down hair production. Fortunately, the follicle always has the potential to regrow hair. Scientists do not know exactly why the hair follicles undergo these changes, but they suspect that In addition to treatments to help hair grow, there are measures that can be taken to minimize the physical dangers or discomforts of lost hair.

How Is Alopecia Treated?

In addition to treatments to help hair grow, there are measures that can be taken to minimize the physical dangers or discomforts of lost hair.

Sunscreens are important for the scalp, face, and all exposed areas.

Eyeglasses (or sunglasses) protect the eyes from excessive sun, and from dust and debris, when eyebrows or eyelashes are missing.

Wigs, caps, or scarves protect the scalp from the sun and keep the head warm.

The following are some treatments for alopecia areata.

Local injections, Corticosteroids, Oral corticosteroids, Topical ointments, Minoxidil (5%) (Rogaine*), Sulfasalazine, Topical sensitizers, Oral cyclosporine, Photo-chemotherapy.

Alternative Therapies:

When drug treatments fail to bring sufficient hair regrowth, some people turn to alternative therapies.
Sealing your wefts!

I wanted to do a short tutorial on how to seal your wefts. Its a very simple process that can extend the life span of your hair extensions by reinforcing the weft (making it stronger) and eliminate excessive shedding. It will still shed a little maybe a few little hairs in a brush.

Until I’m proven wrong ALL HAIR SHEDS! Milky Way Hair, Unicorn Hair, Cheap Hair, Expensive Hair, Horse Hair Llama hair, Barbie Hair, My Little Pony Hair, Bougie Girl Hair…

The better quality the hair the less it tends to sheds (and that statement can vary because there are so many vendors). I’ve found that quality vendors tend to make stronger wefts for the most part and there’s less of an excessive shedding issue.

~What You Will Need~

Time (at least 1hr), Wefted Hair Extensions, Sealer, Application Bottle (if needed, some sealants come in a tube and the hole is too big), Rubbing Alcohol, something to protect your surface and lay the hair on (towels, mannequin head, cardboard, table or an ironing board.)

Step 1~ Purchase your desired fabric sealant. You can find fabric sealant in any craft store, Wal-Mart or you can purchase sealant from some hair vendors.

If your looking in the craft store look for or ask for Fray Block or Fray Check etc. If you ask for Hair Weft Sealer you will probably get the side eye.

I use Dritz Fray Check, which I purchased at Micheal’s or Jo-Ann’s (can’t remember). Some hair vendors sell their own brand of sealant which your can order from their website. Dritz costs about $2 for two small bottles that came together in one package. I have only used Dritz Fray Check. I’m not stuck on that brand & I’m open to try new things but I’ve had success with it. I’ve heard good things about Aleens Fray Check some Hair vendor branded ones as well.

Step 2~If your doing this to new hair or even used hair make sure the hair is dry. I prefer to wash and condition the hair prior to sealing. The order is up to you as long as the weft dry when you apply the sealant.

Step 3~ Find your workspace. If you select a sealant with a strong smell choose a workplace that’s well ventilated. Do this someplace where your know no one will touch it or move it while it’s drying. I like to lay my tracks down on a towel on the floor.

Step 4~ Place the sealant on the tracks. Run it along the length of the weft, applying it

directly to the weft .

I like to lay my tracks down on a towel on the floor. To save space and not have a whole interstate highway system of hair tracks lying around, I lay down my first bundle towards to the top of the towel seal, then place another towel down then lay the next track.

Step 5~ Let it dry.The drying time will depend on what brand/type of sealant you use. Most “dry” quickly but it don’t “cure“ immediately, meaning it may still fray or shed if not completely dry. Do NOT WET OR WASH the hair for 24 hrs. or for up to five days depending on the sealant you choose to use. Be sure to READ the instructions on the bottle or package.

Step 6~ Once it’s dry to the touch or your satisfaction flip over and do the other side of the track of you want. I’ve done this about 4 times and have only sealed one side of the track and have been satisfied with that result. I know some ladies who prefer to do both sides. I know some ladies that double seal. So do what’s best for you.

Once completely dry it should be clear. If your heavy handed with your sealant you may look a little white or you may see a clear whitish residue. If your install is good NO ONE SHOULD SEE YOUR TRACKS… EVER…

Having a Problem Applying your own Wig???

Sometimes, the excited customer has this fantasy of being able to unpack their first lace front wig and achieve a flawless application in record time. You've done the research, learned all you can and you're ready. Sometimes, it's frustrating and takes practice to get your application technique just right. Although it's time consuming to practice applying your lace front wig, the results of the perfect application are well worth the effort. The best advice we can give you is to have patience. Set aside plenty of time to apply your unit, don't apply it in a rush, and most of all, be gentle with your unit becuase pulling just a tad too much, or being a little too careless with the scissors can damage the wig cap. Even the most experienced stylists occasionally have a snafu, pulling a wig too tightly or cutting too close to the hairline and experiencing a slip of the scissors.

The most important thing to learn about applying your wig for the first time is if it doesn't fit, don't stretch it. The most common damage to a wig cap is the result of trying to pull and stretch, a cap that is too small, to make it fit. You will notice that when you receive your wig, if you have lace around the perimeter, there is extra lace around the front hairline and the nape. This comes in handy if your cap fits but the hair doesn't quite cover your temples or sideburns. We can add more hair to the wig, our wigmakers are experts at extending a hairline. However, if you have already cut the extra lace away, this will no longer be an option.

When you unpack your wig, place it on your head to ensure it fits and the hair covers your own hairline before you begin to cut away the lace or try to apply the unit. Then, have patience, be willing to learn and experiment, and use our application guide (included with your order if you requested one) to help you through the process. Or make an appointment wih me by calling 610-277-1175.

How To Deal With a Wigs‘ shedding Problem

How To Deal With a Wigs‘ shedding Problem

For the full lace wigs or lace front wigs, having a shedding problem is really very bad. And it is really very very hard to be sure all the wigs won't have the shedding problem. No one can be sure that lace wigs never shedding, even on our own growing hair, we have loss everyday...You have to realize all of the full lace wigs are hand-tied work, and the hair is sewn on one by one and it takes about 1 month to produce one new wig.If the knots are not strong or after you wear for some time, some hair knots may loosen. The lace wigs may have a shedding problem. It is unavoidable... But we try our best to make all the knots strong enough, and choose the best wigs for the customers.

We can do our best to extend our lace wigs life!

Sealing your wig's knots will help decrease shedding. The bottle of KNOT sealer you need
is called "TDI KNOT SEALER" You can find it on my website. You will
need a wig head, sealer and your lace unit. Turn the unit inside out. Then place
the cap inside out on wig head. Spray unit lightly with sealer standing 6 to 8
inches away. DO NOT SPRAY SEALER ON HAIR. You should not be able to see the
spray on your unit. If you do, you've used too much. The last step is the unit must
dry for 15 to 30 minutes. If you remove it before then, it may not seal. You
can seal your knots after each time you shampoo and condition your unit or preferrably after every removal.

Keratin is a basic protein presented in our hair, skin and nails. Since the salon treatment is often called Keratin straightening treatment, consumers assume that keratin is related to straight hair, but this is not correct.

When Keratin Treatment for Hair is performed, a salon professional applies solution that instantly infuses the hair with keratin, repairing all damage and flaws within the hair. Keratin increases shine and reduces frizz, but does not directly straighten the hair itself as many people believe. After the application, the cocktail of various chemicals is added to your hair, and that creates the straightened effect by semi-permanently altering the hair’s structure.

Results of keratin hair treatments may vary between consumers. Some of them are stating that the process works as promised and keeps their hair straight and smooth for several months, while others are not satisfied with the result of the treatment. Almost all of them are concerned about the exposure to dangerous chemicals such as Formaldehyde. For this reason several newer versions of the treatment have been created that do not use Formaldehyde at all.

You can find Keratin hair treatments available at many salons all around the world. Some of them offer promotional discounts when a new version of the keratin hair treatment arrives. Ask a hairstylist you trust to see before-and-after photos of customers who had the treatment done, and don’t be shy and ask about the chemicals used in the treatment, and available safety precautions.

For some clients a treatment that changes their hair for several months may be a big risk, but for others spending hours struggling with frizzy hair that refuses to straighten, keratin treatment for hair is a life-changing miracle.

Call TODAY and schedule your Keratin Treatment

610-277-1175 or schedule online at www.dddlacewigs.com

You may have always seen excessive hair in the brush or shower and considered it normal.

It's only when your scalp becomes visible or your ponytail thickness reduces you may ask 'why is my hair falling out' and start investigating - which is probably why you're reading this now!

Approximately 30% of pre-menopausal women are affected by Female hair loss in the UK, so if you think your hair is thinning, you're not alone! Stopping Female hair loss and regaining hair thickness, depends on establishing the true cause and dealing with it as quickly as possible.
What Causes Chronic Telogen Effluvium?
Often combinations of problems contribute to female hair loss. Women are increasingly under greater stress, high-pressure jobs, juggling work and family life, leaving less time to consider their own health and wellbeing. Stress 'burns off' vital nutrients such as B vitamins which are vital for good hair quality and growth. Thyroid problems, endocrine imbalances, yo-yo dieting, crash weight loss, vegetarian and low protein diets can all contribute to hair loss in women. Other nutrients including iron, zinc, copper, selenium, vitamin A and essential fatty acids are vital for hair health. There are countless hair supplements on the market today, however we don't recommend you attempt to design your own female hair loss nutritional program without the help of a qualified professional. You may waste time and money or cause further problems by using the wrong supplements.
Low Iron (Ferritin) and Female Hair Loss
One of the most common causes of hair loss in women, without doubt is low Iron stores. A large majority of the women who consult a Trichologist have below optimum Iron stores for good hair growth. A study conducted on 1000 women revealed 33% suffered female hair loss, 90% caused by low Iron stores and 10% caused by Genetic (female pattern baldness) or other factors.

GP's are often unaware of exactly which blood tests to carry out for female hair loss, most opting for the Full Blood Count and Haemoglobin tests for anaemia. However, the most important blood test for a woman suffering female hair loss is the Serum Ferritin, a test for iron stores. Research has not established a link between low Haemoglobin and hair loss as they have with low Serum Ferritin. Once the Serum Ferritin level increases and reaches a certain trigger point - around 70ug/l, hair loss should decrease and hair growth improve. You may have already been prescribed iron tablets and not found an improvement in your hair but are you using them correctly or taking enough of the best form?
Low B12 and Hair Loss
Low B12 - another cause of hair loss in women which is frequently missed by GP's. It's not a routine blood test and even when a person is tested for B12, if the result is borderline they will rarely be treated. The minimum level for B12 is around 180 ng/l however most healthy people have a level of around 500ng/l. Symptoms of low B12 include hair loss, breathlessness, lack of energy palpitations, bleeding gum's, mouth ulcers, tingling in the hands and feet.

There are two types of B12 deficiency:

Lack of dietary B12 - usually vegetarians and vegans, B12 is mostly found in animal produce rather than plants. Solution - increase dietary B12 or/and take a B12 supplement.

Autoimmune - Antibodies to intrinsic factor prevent absorption of dietary B12. A blood test for intrinsic factor can be carried out to determine if your problem is dietary or autoimmune. If your problem is auto immune your GP will do further investigation to try to determine why it has developed. Treatment - lifelong B12 injections

Steam therapy is a deep conditioning treatment using water, which is changed into vapors of steam. The tiny sized molecules penetrates the hair roots and fibers and releases moisture into the scalp thus allowing scalp to cleanse, purify, open clogged pores and release toxins. When using the power of steam while deep conditioning, you are encouraging both the nourishing properties of the conditioner applied and the hydrating qualities of water, to penetrate deep inside the hair shaft.
BENEFITS:1-Promotes hair growth
When done regularly, hair steaming can help promote hair growth at its root. By strengthening you hair through steaming, it will continue to grow longer and you will never have to worry about hair breakage any more. Nevertheless, it is essential to form healthy habits in order to prevent air breakage or drying out.

Open blocked scalp pores allowing hair to grow. If the pores are clogged, hair follicles will not be able to grow. Steaming allows the scalp to cleanse, purify and release toxins. Steaming helps uncloffing your pores and giving hair the maxium chance of re-growing fast.

2-Dandruff Treatment
You can use a variety of methods to treat your hair, but the most effective treatment is steaming. While doctors often recommend the usage of anti-fungal agent, hair steaming is proven effective with no significant side effects. It can help eliminate dandruff if you do it consistently.

3-Improves Elasticity
Improve elasticity of the hair: This is the ability of the hair strand to be stretched without breaking. If the hair has no elasticity, it is easy to break and split. Steam helps to resolve this.

Hair Coloring While Pregnant?

There is no absolute answer to this question. But ask your doctor/Hairstylist for their opinion. Consider waiting to color your hair until the second trimester, when your developing baby is less vulnerable. Also, rather than using an all-over hair color, consider a process like streaking, highlighting, painting, or frosting, in which the chemicals have little or no contact with your scalp. (Any hair-coloring agents absorbed into your system would come through your skin, not through your hair shaft.)

If you do choose to color your own hair, wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated space to minimize your exposure to the chemicals used in the coloring process. Don't leave the dye on any longer than necessary, and thoroughly rinse your scalp at the end of the process.

he biggest concern for pregnant women is the smell of he chemicals, and how long you are in contact with such chemicals....Happy Coloring!
